GMAT Preparation in Malaysia Klang

The GMAT is the most widely used entrance exam for MBA and business master’s programmes worldwide, accepted at over 7,700 programmes across 114 countries. The test was significantly redesigned in 2024  if you’ve seen older prep material describing an essay section or a 3.5-hour test, it’s describing the retired format.

My Home Tuition provides one-to-one GMAT preparation built around the current exam, with sessions allocated between Quant, Verbal and Data Insights based on your actual strengths and weaknesses, not a fixed split.

The GMAT changed in 2024 — here's the current format

GMAC replaced the classic GMAT with a redesigned version on 7 February 2024. It was initially called the “GMAT Focus Edition” to distinguish it from the retired format during the transition, but since 1 July 2024 it’s simply called the GMAT  there’s no other current version to distinguish it from anymore.

What changed from the older format:

– One fewer section. The classic GMAT had four sections including a standalone essay. The current GMAT has three: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights.
– The essay is gone. Analytical Writing Assessment the 30-minute “Analysis of an Argument” essay has been removed entirely. There’s no writing section on the current GMAT.
– Data Insights replaces Integrated Reasoning, absorbing and expanding on it, and is now weighted equally with Quant and Verbal in your score (Integrated Reasoning used to be scored separately and didn’t count toward your main score).
– Sentence Correction is gone from Verbal. Grammar-heavy questions about modifiers, parallelism and subject-verb agreement are no longer tested.
– Much shorter. Down from roughly 3.5 hours (including two optional breaks) to 2 hours 15 minutes (with one optional break).
– New scoring scale. Total score now runs 205–805 (ending in 5), rather than the old 200–800 scale.
– You can now review and change answers. Up to 3 answers per section can be revisited and changed  this wasn’t possible on the classic, fully-locked adaptive format.

The core purpose  assessing analytical, quantitative and data reasoning skills relevant to business school  hasn’t changed. What changed is which skills are tested, how long it takes, and how it’s scored.

Current GMAT structure

SectionTimeQuestionsWhat it tests
Quantitative Reasoning45 minutes21 questionsProblem solving and data sufficiency, drawing on core quantitative reasoning skills
Verbal Reasoning45 minutes23 questionsReading comprehension and critical reasoning (Sentence Correction has been removed)
Data Insights45 minutes20 questionsData analysis and interpretation across graphics, tables, multi-source reasoning and two-part analysis

Total testing time is 2 hours 15 minutes, with one optional break. Each section is scored 60–90, combining into a total score of 205–805.

The GMAT is computer-adaptive: question difficulty adjusts to your performance as you go, and you can review and change up to 3 answers per section before moving on.

You still choose your preferred section order at the start of the test — this flexibility carried over from the previous format.
